Framing Britney Spears Makers Say That They Have Plenty More Material To Make A New Documentary

Publish date: 2024-05-04

Britney Spears has become a lightning rod for controversy over the last few years, mostly due to the conservatorship held over her by her father, Jamie Spears. Over time, the #FreeBritney movement had intensified on social media until it evolved into a full-fledged documentary produced by the New York Times.

As it was previously reported, Framing Britney Spears was released on Hulu earlier this year and it sparked a lot of conversations in the press, on social media, and of course, in the tabloids as well. For instance, Justin Timberlake apologized profusely once it was released.

Justin said sorry to both Janet Jackson and Britney Spears – in the case of Janet, he apologized for the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, and then to Britney for allegedly benefiting from their breakup. The movie has made an impact in other ways as well.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter, picked up by IndieWire, featured a conversation with the film’s main creators who talked about the future of the case and how they had plenty of material to make another movie if they needed to.

The conversation between Samantha Stark, the director, and Liz Day, the writer, was featured by The Hollywood Reporter, with both parties explaining how they could easily make another documentary with all of the footage that wasn’t included in the first one.

Day said there was so much material left on the “cutting room floor” simply because the project was getting too long, and many of the ideas just needed more film and space in order to receive adequate treatment. Additionally, the conservatorship battle is an ongoing case so there is new information coming out all of the time.

Stark said to the outlet that there are a lot of new developments in the conservatorship battle. They believe there are a few people who have benefited from the conservatorship financially, including Britney’s father.

As it was noted above, the film has struck a chord in popular culture since it came out, inspiring even more people to join the #FreeBritney cause.
